Wheel Bearing going out?
alright last weekend I rotated my tires when i was at home, and then drove back to school (about 80 miles) and everything was fine. Now this weekend when i was coming home again, I started hearing a humming noise coming from the front end.
Now i have read around on here and pretty much all the other posts about wheel bearing going out sound exactly the same, so i am assuming thats the problem, now I dont think i i will be able to get a new on tomorrow since its sunday,
1. Will i be alright to drive back to school and then get it fixed this week sometimes?
2. Can i replace just one, or do i need to do both at the same time? and how
3. When i read other threads it says to check for "slop", does that mean slop in rotating the hub, or pushing it in and out?

I will let the Gearheads answer your questions... but can you also advise the following info - it may assist in determining the cause of the hum:
At what speeds you hear the humming?
Does it increase/decrease with speed?
Did you put on a new tire or just rotate the existing tires?
How is the tread on the tires? Meaning, are they worn evenly across the tire or are there different wear patterns on the tread.

If its a wheel bearing youll be ok till the weekend.I am not recommending this but I drove for about 2 months with noisy wheel bearing. They are a pain with our cars.

Your description indicates a bad hub. They generally are pretty quiet until around 30 mph, then can start to hum. They don't have to be replaced in pairs, but the other one is likely to fail sometime in the not too distant future. The bearing may, or may not exhibit "slop". Pushing the tire side to side might show some. Some have had luck by placing their hand on the spring, while spinning the tire and feeling a vibration there.
This link will take you to a how to for a Grand Prix, but it is pretty much the same as the Bonneville.

I don't see a brand listed for the hub. Some have had good luck with Ebay hubs - some not. Perhaps someone has purchased one from that vendor and will give their input.

After thinking about it, I am just going to get a timken from rockauto. With the discount code i can get it for $115, and the ebay one would be about 100 with shipping, so for the 15 extra dollar I think its worth it.

Is the first one the one that i need?
EDIT: that link takes you back to the homepage i guess, but if you go to a 2000 SSEi, and then brake/wheel hub and then axle bearing and hub assembly the one im talking about is the first in the list. I need to order this soon and get it fixed, but I dont know if thats the right one.
