Keys

I lost the only key to my 2001 SSEi. Does anyone know how much a new one is, and do I have to wait untill Monday and get one from a dealer, or is there another way?

Sounds like you're looking at a dealer visit. If you don't have a master (black head) key, you can't program any additional ones. They will need to reprogram you VTD (Vehicle Theft Deterrent) module. The 2000+ Bonneville uses a PassKey III system and relies on a chip in the head of the key. I can't comment on cost, but with the reprogramming on top of everything else it's going to be a few bucks.

Call first too to see what sort of proof of ownership they require. Hopefully just your registration and drivers license.

About 5 years ago I had one made for my cadillac with the chip in it. It cost $35. Recently a friend of mine got one without a chip... $6.

Good point. Many people at my dealership know me by name (not sure if this is good or bad  ), so I hadn't much thought about this.

called a dealership last week about getting a spare key for my 00.... said it would be 60 bucks for the new one..... needless to say I just make sure I never lose my keys.

you can pick up a key off Ebay, and have the dealer cut it

Bonnevillan 03-09-2008 01:49 PM

and program it? it's different for 00+

So the dealer can program a new key that I can get off E-bay?

The keys are in the 60$ to 65$ range and about $20 for programming. Do you have your remotes? They should be unaffected.

Do you have the valet key?
