INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ..look here before ask
Archon, thanks for the reply. I guess I'll try the grease version of the fix first, that way I'll get the education of removing the shaft, so that when/if I need to replace it I'll have that knowledge.
there is a write up in the tech info section on replacing/lubing.
i just bought a new "double-d" version and installed it saturday. i had it installed under an hour. But, it helped the boots were already slit under the dash...so that saved some time. no noise, no clunk at all.

Keep us posted if anything goes wrong
Once again Archon, a big thanks for the motor oil trick on the intermediate shaft. Mine was lubed once by the dealer, then replaced under warranty. Now its back and I tried to lube it with marine grease and it didn't do anything. After I read your tip about using 30w motor oil, I tried it, and viola! All is well. Don't know for how long, but it sure is an easy and fast fix.
Replaced the I-shaft on my 2000 Bonneville SSEi for the second time and the familiar "clunking" sound when turning the wheels returned about 20000 miles later. The dealer said they have an improved Intermediate shaft that they will install for close to $400, but I am not going to put in a third one. Right now, I am trying to figure out how to replace the crank position sensor. Typhoon94

Great! Glad to hear that it worked for you.
