Default Alternator differences between 2000+ W-body and H/G-Body

So yeah, are there any differences between the alternator, say on a GP, Monte Carolo, and Impala vs. a Bonneville? I'm speaking of a non-supercharged engine here, just the basic L36.

And if there are differences, what are they?

Thanks.

Hmm... ok. Thats what I was figuring.

The parts store has them listed as different prices and different model #'*. If I can save a few bucks, I'm going to do so.

Check the amp ratings...H-body'* may have come with a higher rating than W-body.

Yeah, the H'* are 105, the W'* are 102.

But... I can get an aftermarket HO alternator for much less if listed under a W than an H. Not sure the reasoning on this, however.

IMO, I just couldn't see them changing an alternator on the same engine from platform to platform, it would just make no sense.

I guess I should just run into the parts store and compare the two.

but being on the same eng isnt surefire that theyre the same. cuz its still 2 different bodies all together. the eng harness' are different, so the output wire and regulator harness may need to be in a different location. but as far as the actual mounting, same casing.

so ya, best thing to do atr this point would be to compare ones at the parts store.

and should it happen to be a different clocking, take note of the location on the wire locations.

cuz i have 140 from a cadillac on my olds that has a different clocking than the original. but the harness had plenty of room to safely connect.
