interior lights
so i was driving along in my 2000 ssei when i realized for some reason my interior lights quit working. so i checked the fuse box and sure enough i blew my fuse. i was thinking awesome an easy two second fix and i'll be on my happy way. i put in a new fuse and to my surprise it blew right away. so i tried a 15 amp fuse instead of the recommended 10 amp. to make a long story short i kept blowing fuses and gave up for the night. does anyone know of any common problems with shorts in the wiring?or am i missing something simple?
any advise is appreciated thanks dan |
You can pull all your inside bulbs and see if the fuse blows. If not, then start putting bulbs back in. Otherwise you will have to start checking wires for a short. Start by checking the sockets. You can also try unplugging the whole fixture and see if the fuse blows.

My 2002 SLE would occasionally blow the fuse for the interior lights (several times a month). Turns out it was the sun visors (light in the mirror). A mechanic at my local dealer said they have had problems with them. Played with the sun visors and got the fuse to blow. Replaced the sun visors and haven't blown a fuse in 1-1/2 years.

That is a great observation, that's for sharing. Hope this proves to be the cause here.

i pulled out the bulbs in the passenger side visor and now it doesnt blow the fuse...
good enough for now |
I'm glad my resolution seems to have helped you. I never thought of the sun visors until the mechanic mentioned it. Kind of 'Out of sight, out of mind'.

well so much for the fix it lasted about a day and the fuse blew again

Try unplugging the visor. It could be a short in the wires

2003 Bonneville SE
Interior dome light blowing fuse. Fuse is under the back seat. The lights where shorting intermittently in the wire running through the driver’s side sun visor at the visors connection to the headliner. All I did was disconnect visor at headliner and add electrical tape to wire where it comes through the visor mount. No blown fuse for about one year. |
