Default My car is possessed!

The day started out normally enough. Went out to the car started it up to warm it up because it was 19 degrees and it was covered in ice. Hit the rear defrost no problem hit the front defrost..nothing hit the button again nothing after the 4th try the light came on and it started to work. Turned on the radio and listed to some tunes while the defrosters soften things up. After a couple of minutes I got out of the car and started scraping the windows when I tried to get back into the car it was locked. I didn't lock the doors when I got out the keys were in it and it was running the whole time. I got the spare set of keys opened the car and the radio was on a different station and the presets on the radio were changed to the ones in it when I bought the car.

The car was never out of my site so no one got into it and locked the doors or changed the radio settings plus it was running the whole time. It ran fine the whole hour drive to work. Has anyone else had a similar problem or is my car just possessed?

Spooky.

Maybe Gremlins? I dunno man, its seems like to many things went wrong all at once. Cold temps will do weird things to cars, I can understand the defroster problem, just a minor once in a lifetime glitch.

The radio stations changing and the wonky presets.....thats just spooky

I had trouble pushing some of the buttons on the heater controls when I got mine.
I had it in the list of warranty issues........but.......it fixed itself.....
and........now that you mention it.......I had a station reset on the radio.......coming home the other day I punched that button.....and .......no preset........... :(
I went ahead and set two stations after that.......but haven't tried them yet.......
Now I'm scared to!!!..........
Oh well........If this is all the problems I have......I can live with it....... :P

If it'* gremlins they better start chipping in some gas money.

I agree nuf said...when they work it'* great otherwise what a PITA.

The Christine thing did cross my mind too! Especially since when I left work on Friday all of the presets had magiaclly reappeared, and the radio station that I had on in the morning at home prior to all of these mysterious problems was back on. It was not the station I had on when I got to work in the morning because it doesn't come in Fredneck.

I have no idea how I'm going to explain this to the service manager at the dealership!

Default i know

the defroster botton is a little sticky at new when it is cold
as for the radio when you used the spare keys it activated the scond person pesets that go along with the other keys that why the radio changed the thing has a computer that can tell the difference between the keys.

Spend a little time reading the owners manual in your glovebox. There'* a great explanation about how the key fob remotes or Driver 1 / 2 door buttons activate preselects for your radio, side mirrors, climate control and seating position.

You can reset or change any or all of the auto selects by going through the personalization feature on your DIC......read the manual.

It is a worthwhile venture...for the first two days I owned my car, I was using the Driver 2 key fob. After getting extremely frustrated at the fact that the seat, mirrors and radio stations were f'd up every time I got in the car, I decided to RTFM. :P

Ok read the manual. It doesn't have anything in it about the key fob controlling the radio presets. But when I got both sets of keys out and tried them out the presets on the radio do change depending on which key is used go figure . As far as the other personalization items like climate control, seat and mirror positions go the manual says that is only on the SLE and SSEi models with DIC. My car is an SE and it doesn't have the Drivers Information Sytem (DIC), so the seats, mirriors, and climate control can't be personalized by key fob on my car.

So that solves the radio preset mystery, but the car locking itself with the keys in it and the engine running is still a mystery for now.
