Default Service engine soon light

MY light came on the other day, then my engine started bogging down, and jerking. I was on the highway about a few miles away from home. I looked at all my gauges and they looked OK, so I slowed down to about 55 and just limped home. Half way home the light started flashing, then went back to being steady. Once I got home I opened the hood and everything seemed to look ok. I took it to autozone later that night and got the code P0300, but I know there could many reason for this. I also noticed on the way back from AZ, that y oil guage is now steady on 120, and does move when I start my car, any idea'*?

Could be a number of things. Pull the plugs and inspect them first. Check for vacuum leaks, check the plug wires, check the fuel pressure. Lets see what we find with that. Post pictures of the plugs if you can.

we changed out the plugs the other day and they all seemed ok, no access oil or anything, but we threw those out, I didnt think of taking pics, just found the forum today. How do you check for vac. leaks? and fuel pressure?

To check for vacuum leaks you take a can of carb cleaner and spray it on the vac hoses, and connections while the engine is running. If the RPM changes you have a leak

Sometimes the cat just goes bad. Purplehaizer has a link for a good cat for your car.

Your car has 2 O2 sensors. First is in the rear exhaust manifold, that helps set the air fuel mixture. The second one is between the cat and the resonator. That one monitors the cat.

How many miles on the spark plug wires?
Are any wires touching the O2 sensor wiring?

A quick and easy test of plug wires/ignition system is to start the car from cold..and lightly mist the engine, trying to not drown the alternator. An ignition problem is easy to see at night as the wires etc arch out and give you a cool light show.
