Default Anyone have a moaning car?

Ever since I got my car, it has made a strange noise every so often. My dad got a chance to hear it today, and thought it was the tires. It only happens when I have both the window and the sunroof open, and at lower speeds. It'* a real low droning noise that actually kind of hurts my ears. And it seems to mostly do it when turning. The car doesn't have any vibration issues, odd tire wear, or anything else so I just think it'* something to do with cabin pressure and wind or something of the sort. Our suv actually has a similar thing when the front and back windows are open. Anyone else experience this?

Both my LeSabres do this terribly when the front windows are up and one of the kids cracks the back window even a bit. It'* some kind of "ported subwoofer" effect, and it'* like someone'* beating my head with a hammer. That design flaw is a huge pet peeve of mine about these cars.

I can solve it by either cracking the driver'* window, or locking out the back windows

agrazela,

Yep. My SSEi does that bass fiddle noise too with either of the rear windows down. Drives your brain nuts. Actually the old '92 SSE had the same problem. The SSEi solved its own problem a bit the other day. True to form the right rear window fell down a few inches, of its own accord! I never use the rear windows anyway so I just disconnected the motor terminal and hose-clamped the window in a permanent up position. Half the wind "rumbling" problem solved eh?

Hmmmm....can't say that I've had that issue... I drive with the front windows down and the sunroof open (totally open and vented) on occassion... will have to experiment tomorrow to see if I can recreate what you are hearing with the rears down... the only other moaning/humming sound I've experienced (that changes with speed) is when a wheel bearing went bad (not with this car though).

Oh you would know if you've had it happen. Like the others have said, it'* really kind of painful it'* so loud. It does actually sound sort of like a rapid beating of a bass drum. I don't think it has done it with both front windows open.

Yep Grimm,

Front windows open does not make the drumming; just with the rears down. Actually what real good does the rears being down do anyway, unless there is a passenger or 2 in the rear seats?

My wifes Pacifica does the same, and so does the bonne. I thought it was due to the way the cars were sealed. (pretty air tight).

I love to mess with people by only lowering the rear windows at highway speed
I guess the 92-99 model years have the same "problem." It would be an issue if only the fronts being down cause it, because that'* how a lot of people drive.

I have the same moaning noise. I've learned to just ignore it. I had my rack replaced, it stopped for about 6 months, and now it'* back again. The dealer tells me it'* not a safety issue, just an annoyance.
