ECT and what it controls
Inherited problems from previous owner. One in particular is lack of attention to the coolant and proper maintenance. The ECT controls both the radiator cooling fans and the gauges on the DIC. How can I test the ECT to see if the gauges are reading correctly. I also was wondering if I need to bleed the cooling system on the 3800 engine.

Click on "Quick Links" above, go down to "User Control Panel" and then click on "Edit your Signature" It'* pretty straight forward from there.
You should only need to bleed the cooling system if you've drained the system, replace a hose or T-stat. You can of course bleed it if you feel the need. their is a relief valve on top of the T-stat housing.
