Default AFC 1.1 Setting ???

I know it has been posted before but I have a question for someone like dbtk2 who has an identical car with similar mods to mine.
I don't have an auto tap yet so I need to know what would be a safe initial setting for my new mini AFC 1.1 that just arrived today?
I seem to remember 104% but not sure.

I set mine to 103 to get my 02s up initially. However I was really rich the first run (980), very nice on the second run (950) and back to 910-915 (too lean) by the third run. Your stock PCM will unlearn the afc settings. i would recommend a scanner before you start messing with your air/fuel. I talked to Scott a bit about this while we were experimenting and as it turns out he doesnt mess with the AF at all, he just lets the PCM handle it. I did a few posts on this a while back.

Tell us more! So Rogue what do you recomend for me? BTW can you email me those a-tap runs when you get time, Thanks. taylorsturf@comcast.net
My 02'* were 930ish the first run and leaned out bigtime to 880'* the second.

Found this last night, this could solve our problems, wonder how it works during partle throttle, need more info. http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/projects/amaft.htm

The mini-afc on the SSEi is set at 105%, however I would definately not base your car off of anyone elses because ALL CARS ARE DIFFERENT no matter how much the same they appear. Your car could be running very rich already (although I highly doubt it). The only real way to tell what to set it at is with a scan tool.

However, there is something about the SSEi PCM that just hates Mini-AFC'*. The SSEi has already fried 2 (maybe 3, I can't remember for sure). I don't know how it does it, but after a few months the Mini-AFC stops working and sets an SES light and the car starts idling like it has a big cam, and then if we put the mini-afc in another car it makes the other car do the same thing...its really odd.

Well, I'm going to try it blind. I've set it at 104%. I take it that this means that it will trick the computer into adjusting the Air to Fuel ratio 4% richer than stock translations from the A/F sensor. I want it to run a little richer to make up for my mods and be on the safe side. If the PCM leans it back out, then it should do that for good reason. I don't understand how the PCM would even know it was there. :?
The car runs rich during the warm up cycle. I know that from the black soot that spits all over my back bumper from the tail pipes when it'* cold. Other than that, the inside of the exhaust tail pipes is clean as a whistle, no black soot.
When you say that you fried a few already, I'm guessing that the engine bay heat eventually takes it'* toll on the electronics inside the module, since it is a feed forward device and does not accept signals back from the PCM. No electronic device lives long in 200* environment near the top of the engine bay.
I have taken the extra step to fully encapsulate it inside an insulating packette.

My guess is the PCM looks at the 02 readings and pulls fuel until it gets what it wants (seems to be 880 to 910). I'm thinking 104 would be a bit rich off the bat. Scott says that each 1 percent is tripled in effect so a 104 would be like 12% increase. As I said, 103 first netted me somewhere near 980 which is way rich. I really do recommend a scanner, or a dyno with wideband 02 readings (although with less load on the car i was seeing even richer 02'* on the dyno).

I am not sure, but my guess is that it isn't the heat. I have heard of a few people having problems with them, but not many, and we haven't had any problems with Mini-AFC'* on the GTP except for the first one we got that didn't work! And the odd thing is that the mini-afc'* seem to quit working quicker and quicker each time one breaks. Odd. Maybe they are just defective, but I don't know...it just doesn't seem right.

Setting it at 104 isn't going to hurt anything since that is richer not leaner, but I wouldn't recommend doing much tuning that way without a scan tool.

OK, I'll take your advice. I have removed it for now since I just installed my new DHP computer.
I'll bring it to the Bonne meet this summer. Maybe someone will have a scanner there that I can use to tune it......if it will work at all....well maybe with the reprogrammed DHP it might. :?

I hated having it just sitting on the bench so I installed it just for the hell of it to see if I could tell any difference....seat of the pants.
I'll live with it for a while. Don't expect it will do any harm set at 103%. Rich is safe.

You want rich, you should see how rich my 750 CFM carburated Firebird is set up at. It spits fuel.

And for extra measure I installed the adjustable fuel pressure regulator and have it set at 54 psi. Stock is 52 psi. Track setting recommendation is 56 psi.
