Who know'* why it'* there, but I asked the same question when I first bought my b'ville. I kinda like it back there. It saves the battery from being in any kind of harsh environment. All that it has to go through are the temperature changes that the inside of the car goes through.

One gripe that I have with the battery is the frame (or form factor if you will) of the battery they used. This battery is much wider and narrower than any other battery (short of those used in tractor trailers) that I have seen. Plus, it has to have vent holes so that the gases given off by the battery under normal use can be vented to the outside. If left un-vented, these gases can eat away at your seat belts especially in the rear seat.

Us 2000+ guys are just starting to see some battery failures now (only 2 that I know of), and it has been a real pain in the butt to find a replacement other than going to the dealership and shelling out $140 for a new battery.

Dont feel too bad. I was losin my damn mind when I was under the hood the day after I got it trying to find the battery, then tried to convince myself the little one on the left side was it until I looked in the manual then in the back seat.

"little one on the left side"??? Don't know what you're talking about there... I didn't see it anywhere underhood, so I consulted the manual. 1st car I've ever owned that I had to actually read through the manual to figure out everything about the car.

I was just hoping that it wouldn't be in the DUMBEST POSITION EVER!!! AKA- In front of the passenger side wheel like in the 2nd gen Intrepid. You basically have to remove the front wheel to get to the battery. dumb, Dumb, DUMB!!!

I got lucky and happened to remember how the old timers made fun of me when I tried to find the battery in an old VW bug. Guess where it was, yep, under the back seat.

This is kinda off topic but if i wanted to give someone a jump or get my car jumped is there a way to do it without removing my back seat cuz this situation has happened before where one of my roommates would need a jump and i would be like "well if you really need to use my car we can but lets get one of our other roommates cuz i dont want to deal with the whole backseat thing".
