Exhaust tip modification for an SE *UPDATE W/ PICS*
 

For those of you with SLE's, SSEi's and GXP's (lucky!), you are probably aware that the mufflers on your cars are not straight with the body and require the short piece of outlet pipe between the muffler and exhaust tips to be curved so that the tips line up nicely in the bumper cutouts. I have 'your' dual outlet exhaust system on my SE and cut the tips off because the cowbells looked really funny (IMO) with no bumper cutouts to fit within. Basically, I have about 2" of exhaust pipe extending past the muffler hangars and then some tips. Looks pretty good but both tips are angled in a bit due the the curved piece of exhaust pipe.

How difficult would it be for an exhaust shop to weld a new piece of bent pipe on to angle my tips out where they should be? I'm afraid they wouldn't have much material to work with. I've been holding off on getting some nice tips until I can get the outlet pipes straightened out a bit. Other suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for your input.

I've thought about doing that too. The dual exhaust that is. Does it sound different?

I've always thought it seems quieter than the single muffler on the SE, but I could be wrong. Definitely looks much cooler. I highly recommend it. ;)

Shouldnt be too hard. I have done some pretty wild exhaust systems before that required some fancy bending. It can be done as long as the shop knows what they are doing. The other day I put duals on a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4 door. We used a Dynomax camaro muffler and some compound bends to make it work. Turned out real nice though.

Sounds good. I'll have to do some shopping once the weather warms up. I'm sure somebody in town could do it.

$32 and it's just what I was looking for. Was just going to go staight out but as he was mocking it up I thought an angled cut would look nice. Reminds me of the exhaust runouts they put on the early 70's Camaros. Looks really close to what the SE single exhaust looks like as well (x2). I may end up putting some sort of tip on them after Missouri winters have their way with them. I'm wondering if there is something I can apply to the bare pipe to prolong its 'luster' so to speak?
