Engine Mounts

I think I have a broken engine mount. When I switch from reverse to drive the engine moves approx 6". ! When the engine is cold and you put it into reverse you get a really hard thud that shakes the car followed by a loud crack sound. It doesn't sound good at all! Is the 6" of engine travel normal or does it sound like a broken mount? I sure hope not, the rear mount is $280 and the front mount is $249!! THAT IS REDICULOUS FOR POS MOUNTS!

I had the same problem except my engine was only moving about 3". Only the front mount was completely shot but the rear mount was showing a lot of play so I did them both. Are those prices for your SSEi ??? I had both F + R mounts replaced for $102 and $152 (C) and $140 labor. It was not at the dealership so they were probably after-market.

This is on the Riviera but I think they use the same engine mounts. I'll have to check on that. I checked out advance auto, autozone, nappa, etc.. none of them carry anything but stock mounts. I wonder if this bad mount could cause my little bit of a rough shift? It's not really "rough" per se, but it's a little bit of a tug feeling everyshift.

Actually it was the transmission shop that alerted me to the possible broken mount. They claimed my shift was too harsh and one of the problems could be a broken motor mount.

I think I found a way to fix the mount. Just buy some polyurethane glue from a place like Lowes and fill in the cracks with that.

I just purchased a new front tranny mount for mine (supports both trans, and engine). 100.00 out the door from the dealership. I thought about doing it the way pdad and silverbullet did by i think i have a better way. BADSSEi is setup to have a removable brace that locks the trans/engine for the strip but can come off and use the stock gel filled mount for the road. Best of both worlds I think.

Interesting, I'd like to see/hear more about that.
