Hi:

Can someone help me out here....

I am looking at a 2002 SSEi to buy, but this engine in the car does not look like the stock engine..

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks as always!

sawgunner 05-25-2009 04:33 PM

looks like the one in my 2000 ssei without the beauty cover and cleaner

crunkfrunk 05-25-2009 05:10 PM

thats stock, just missing the engine cover aka the heat trap of death

extremely clean btw

mrpontiac65 05-25-2009 08:11 PM

Here's what it would look like with the engine cover.

Danthurs 05-25-2009 09:19 PM

That's stock, just VERY clean. That shows the car was well cared for.

Purplehazeir 05-25-2009 09:36 PM

Stocker...but a very clean and pretty stocker!

streetfreak 05-26-2009 01:25 AM

or had the engine bay cleaned for the sale

mfalk22 05-26-2009 10:25 AM

That is a stock SSEI engine, but wow, even if they spent hours cleaning that in a garage to sell, it still wouldn't look that good, that is amazing. Very well cared for. It does not have the stock cover, but I am sure that you can pick one up from the local junkyard for cheap...

I've used cleaner that can take a nasty grimy mess to that in one application. Expensive cleaner sells cars.

Sorry mod for being off topic, but I am really interested in cleaning my engine bay up, what is a good brand to use, and I will pick some up from the local O' Rileys. Just PM me if you don't want to be off topic.

We don't get Forum Nazi about off topic like some. The thread about a clean engine, I don't see a problem. ;)

PaulPool 05-26-2009 06:47 PM

Yeah drop some names please.

Danthurs 05-26-2009 08:32 PM

I use simple green

Purplehazeir 05-26-2009 09:47 PM

Simple Green, or Black Magic Engine Shine!

tlsheff 05-27-2009 01:27 PM

I triple the :thumbup2: on Simple Green

PaulPool 05-27-2009 05:13 PM

Does the "heat trap of death" need to stay on or can you drive around without it? Does it keep the engine cooler or anything?

Purplehazeir 05-27-2009 06:32 PM

Take the heat trap off....it won't cause any issues and will keep the intake a bit cooler.

PaulPool 05-27-2009 08:35 PM

Alright I'm keeping it off. Thanks for the answer. Might put it back on for winter.

Danthurs 05-27-2009 08:56 PM

Mine has been gone for about 3 years now.

billberry12 05-27-2009 08:59 PM

By the term "heat trap", do you mean the large gray plastic engine cover held on by the oil fill cap? Is it better to leave that off? It seems to serve no purpose. What is it's purpose?

Danthurs 05-27-2009 09:01 PM

Only to look nice. But IMO the engine looks better without it.

It's intended to clean up the look of the engine bay. It does trap heat, which on a SC motor can be problematic if your trying to squeeze extra ponies from it with increased boost. It's up to you if you want to keep it on or not.
