Electronic Load Leveling not turning on AT ALL
 
hi guys,

I recently just found out that my 2000 bonneville SE has ELC...Ive had the car for 3yrs and have never once heard it come on. I got under the car and realized the air compressor had something not connected so i connected it...still nothing.

How do i diagnose and fix problem? Also i need to get the monroe Max Air rear shocks can i manually fill these and forget about the ELC altogether or do i have to do it with the ELC. I dont do towing of any kind and theres never anything in my trunk but 2 12" subs.

It doesn't really level the car front and back, it levels from side to side

might just be the fuse under the back seat, I would check that out first then we can go from there

sorry guess i forgot to mention i checked the fuse labeled ELC and the relay looked fine too

It was always my understanding that ELC was essentially load leveling. The system is pretty simple usually. You have the sensor which is attached to the rear suspension <usually one side only>, which triggers the compressor to fire after it determines it is necessary <position, and usually a delay timer>. Compressor is tied to both rear struts and airs them up until the sensor indicates it is no longer necessary. I have never heard of it leveling from side to side. I think it best that someone with a FSM jump in at this point, because there usually is a specific procedure that pinpoints the issue rather quickly. What did you find disconnected?

Oh it might be front to back, that makes sense since there is only one sensor so if you have a lot of weight in the back it will level it out, I will check my FSM when I get home it is for a 2000 but it should be pretty much the same

The vehicle in question is a 2000, so the differances should be . . . well. . . minimal

Easy test...get some friends over and have them sit in the trunk or back bumper. Turn the key on. You should hear the compressor turn on and see the bumper raise.

With the Monroes, you can get the manual fill kit if you like, But I highly recommend getting the ELC fixed and working.

The ELC switch is located in the left rear wheel well and is connected to the swing arm with a long rod. Check that and make certain that the rod is still attached.

I pulled my driver's rear tire off to replace my brake pads and found out that the connecting rod and the front plate of the control mechanism was missing. 20 bucks and a salvage yard is what it took to fix it.
I assume living on a gravel road was the culprit.

thanx for all the help guys...i had some friends sit in the trunk and still no sound of it working...i will take the tire off and try to see if the rod is broken
