It finally happened..170k modded miles an trans says goodbye
I was hoping to see it hit 200k, but all in all I am impressed with the trannies reliability. The SSEi has been modded since it was brand new and with almost 170k miles the tranny finally said its goodbyes. I haven't driven the car in a while so I'm not sure what it was doing, but my mom said it had been slipping for the last month or so and on Saturday finally just lost all gears. I doubt its any hard parts however and I think just a normal rebuild will do the trick.
FWIW the fluid & filter has only been changed once in this car and that was at 70k miles and it wasn't even a complete flush, all we did was drop the pan. Its had increased line pressure since right around 100k when we put the DHP on which may have helped it actually.
But can't complain about 6 years and 170,000 miles of service with mods in a car that heavy, especially since basically no maintenance had ever been done to the tranny. I'll let you know how the new trans works out. Its just going in to a local trans shop for a normal rebuild.

Thats quite a feat for that trans to hold out that long with the car being mod'd and it being heavy like you said. Did the SSEi have many track passes on it?
I'm looking to push my SSEI further but I know that even though the trans is perfect right now a rebulid is in order very soon with 150k+ on the clock.

I'll fill you in on how it works out and maybe I can tune the thing up a little (has had the current plugs in it for right around 100k miles now) and take it back to the track since it will have a fresh tranny.
