Default Dash illumination acting up

My first issue with my bonneville and its a small one. The dash light dimmer does not work all the time. Sometimes the dash lights are full on and cannot be dimmed and sometimes I can dim them. Has anyone ever had this problem and had it fixed? thanks for your replies.

when you can't dim them, is it light out or dark? The 2000+ bonnevilles have a feature called (I think) parade lighting. It'* where the dash lights are on full brightness during the day, then at night when the headlights turn on the dash lights dim to your desired brightness.

That'* right, the feature is referred to as Parade Dimming in the owners manual. If you select park lamps or headlamps during daylight hours, the instrument panel back lighting will illumunate full brightness. The capability for dimming the IP does not exist in this mode. When day turns to night, the IP lighting will shift automaticly to a "dimmed" condition according to where you have the dimming rheostat set.

Definitely a nice feature. My 2004 Bonneville is loaded with features that my 95 Bonneville did not have. I still miss the 95; it was a dependable nice looking ride.

Thanks for the replies. This occured while it was storming out which accounts for the change in ambient light causing the confusion. I learned something today! Thanks again.

The only problem with the "parade lighting" feature is that it adds lots of hours to the backlights, causing them to burn out quicker. They are supposedly LED'* that should last forever, but I have several of them that have burnt out....and they're not cheap to replace.
