Radio display lighting is out
on my 2000 SSEI. What is the fix? I've read that there is internal light bulb, hard wired inside...?
I am not interested in aftermarket upgrades, just want to fix what I got. Suggestions?

Not sure of the answer, all I can tell you is I had similar problem (part of display was out) on my 2000 while still under warranty and the entire radio got chaged out. Not sure if this is the only fix... seems excessive if so.

radio
After reading some forums.... I pulled the radio out and sent it in to repair shop.
Freight (both ways) and display lighting repair was under $100.
And yes the dealer answer was a new radio at $250 +

Yes!!!!!
I totally agree with PontiacDaddy! I would also like to know where you fixed that thing.
Also, some instructions on how to remove / place the stereo on a 1997 Bonnie would really help. ---- Please...

radio
Southern Electronics was the repairshop that I used
see www.carradio.com for details
Radio was very easily removed from the 2000. The whole instrument benzel cover had to come off to allow axcess to the radio. That include removing the ring around the ignition switch, removal of the "heads up switch" and removal of the functions switch for dash display.
Raio was held in with four clips that are easy to depress and remove radio.

We have two lights out in the 2000. My 97 had the one light behind it go out, I pulled the thing, took it apart and soldered in a new bulb (used turn signal bulb). It was pretty easy. I have not taken the 2000 apart yet due to time.
