City driving
Just curious I notice that if I leave my car in DRIVE during city driving it tends to lug at lower speeds due to the O/D and lockup converter. I find that I really have to get down on the throttle to get it to drop a gear and accelerate with out the low growl of the engine.

Yes this is typical.
I am heavy on the pedal and find that I'm always kicking it up to 2500 rpm just to get out of that lugging. Very hard on fuel mileage.....but then that's why it's programmed to rev as low as possible, for better fuel mileage. If you don't want it to lug, use your shifter and gear down manually. The new performance PCM helped a lot and now it isn't as bad as before. |
I found that mine kicks up pretty effortlessly. Of course my gas mileage is not so hot either. I have a 95 SSEi with 56K miles. I know this is a 2000 and newer thread so please forgive.

In city I usually will leave it in 3rd gear.. another way other then manually shifting the gears is to release the peddle and get right back on it.. so the computer will always find a lower gear to engage and or release the TCC

Drifter420 that is what I do to get it to quit lugging, Does the lock up converter engage when the car is in 3rd?

yes.. if you notice around close to 60kmh ( don't know what that is exact to Miles ) you will notice your RPM drop
