Check Engine Light

04 Bonneville. Check Engine Light has been on for 6 months or so now. Is there any way to troubleshoot other than taking it to a dealership? I live in VA and understand it can fail inspection if not fixed. I do not totally trust the light because the instrument cluster seems to be a minor issue, mostly the gas gauge not working properly. I have also had a starting issue both when hot and cold out where I have had to give it a little accelerator to get her running. Other than that, true love!!!:)

You can go to autozone or advance auto parts to get the codes read for free. Get those codes and we'll be in business.

Fixing the gas gauge is a fairly easy, yet involved procedure.

There is a decent guide on how to fix it for about $25, and the broken gas gauge can trip a CEL.
