Changing PCS in 2000 SE

My 2000 Bonnie SE (87k miles, well maintained) started giving me the dreaded PCS issue. It's shifting hard under light acceleration and begins shuddering at low speed after about 20-30 minutes of highway driving. This just became noticable the past two or three days.

I'm preparing to order the PCS solenoid (p/n 10478143, $32.26 from GM Parts Direct) and the necessary gaskets (p/n 24205119, $4.56) but I'm not finding any information on changing this solenoid or any walkthroughs. It looks like the recommendation is simply to take the car to the dealer.

I'm somewhat confident I can change this module but wanted to check to see if it's a much bigger PITA then just paying $500. If I do this, I also want to know if I should document it for a future walkthrough.

Right now, the other option is going to be to put in Seafoam and trade it in - I haven't had the LIM gasket issue and don't want to / won't pay for both jobs. I like the car and don't feel like getting a new loan, but I don't want to keep throwing money at a lost cause.

Thanks for any advice!

Those are the easy steps. ;) The more detailed part is removing the Case Side Cover

I HIGHLY recommend installing a shift kit instead :!:

I did that at the SAME mileage you have and I am SO MUCH HAPPIER with my car :o

Besides, it was $90 and 45 minutes. A piece of cake :!:

(and your trans will likely last longer too)
