Has anyone changed an HVAC blower assembly on a 2001 Bonneville? I managed to get all the mounting screws loose, and got it to drop an inch or so, but can't get it to drop far enough to clear the fan from the housing, and can't rotate it to a position where it will drop. The FSM says you should be able to pull it without removing any other duct work, but I couldn't get it out.

My next step will be pull the front seats, pull the console, and start dropping duct work until I can get the blower assembly clear, but if someone else has pulled it without removing ducts I would appreciate a little advice.

Can you pull the carpet off the firewall side of the floor and fold it back toward the seat to get enough room to drop the motor and be able to rotate to get it out?

Roy, You have to pull down the clips holding the wire harness up, there should be two, and wiggle it a little. It will come out, I promise.

Has anyone done this with the black plastic style blower motor? Its black and mostly plastic, no metal. Not like the one posted by Black Pearl. I can't seem to get it down and out either. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

If it'* like my 2005 GXP, It should almost fall out.

Well thanks but mine is nothing like that. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I haven't seen any info on it, but I did manage to blow air into the unit and clear some dirt, so far its easier to get the fan blowing. Its still not a permanent fix.

Here are some pictures I took today, I'm not able to mess with it today and remove it again to show the clearence issue but these are two pics that show what mine looks like.

Yes I agree that looks different than the later models and seems harder to remove, I have a 2003 and it does have the silver type metal casing but I believe it can be switched with a later plastic housing type
available at many suppliers. Maybe your car can accomodate the later type blower,

Did you ever get this figured out. I am currently trying to remove the blower motor from a 2000 Bonneville.

If there any update on this?? I had a clog in the condensation line, and i got that resolved. I was getting so much water into the car under the dash. Crawled under the car (on jacks), and cleared it with a hanger. Looks like small snakes mouth. I had like half a gallon of water in the ducting. Anyway, after that, the blower will not turn. I checked the connector, and it is getting power, so i guess the fan is stuck or the motor went bad from all the water. After the cover is off, it looks like 5 screws (5.5mm/6mm?). But is is nearly impossible to get at the back two screws. Maybe i will pull the carpet back and see if i can get a box end wrench on the last ones. My tiny socket is even too big. Should i just take it too the shop? The replacement looks like about $100 from AC Delco (Advance Auto).
