Ceramic Brake Pads ???

I was trying to help my sister out with a decision of brake pads for her 2002 Grand Am GT. She got 16,000 miles out of the factory brakes and is trying to decide which brakes to put on now. I was calling around for her and Pep Boys can put on Ceramic pads while Midas can only put on semi-metallic pads. Both pads have a lifetime warranty on them so that is not too much of a concern. I was just wondering what the general oppinion of ceramic pads is. Whether they are better than semi-metallic pads when used on a stock rotor or not. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks

Jim

One thing I can say is NO BRAKE DUST!! What else could you ask for.

I've got my first set of ceramics on and I'll put ceramics on anything else I have a say about. They stop like the old asbestos pads and have very little brake dust. I love mine.

Thanks for the input. I took her car to get ceramic pads put on the front. Went to Meineke and got out for $145 with the tax. The car seems to stop great with them. I only hope that she will get more miles out of this set than the original factory pads.

from what I've heard, ceramic pads are the best you can buy. They outlast all other pads, make virtually no noise, and have great performance! The pads for my car would have been $75 so I just went with the Organic pads. Those run about $45. I'm waiting for them to come via UPS. Don't want to steal your post, but what do you guys have to say about organic pads?

I got ceramic pads from Midas, they stop great, no dust, but do squeek some when they are cold. I don't know if it's normal or not.

Ceramic Pads

Where do you get ceramic pads? I would like to get them. I replaced my pads on the Bonny now they squeak like hell, and f up my shiney rims with brake dust real bad.

I got the ceramic pads for my sister's car at Meineke. If you were looking to put them on yourself, I think you could pick up a set at a pepboys if there is one around you. If not, you might be able to order one from them over the phone or on their web site. (I'm sure you could probably get them from a lot of other major auto stores too) I got the Raybestos Quiet Stop Ceramic Pads put on my sister's car. They are the top ones on the list on this page:

Good luck finding some pads

You can also get ceramic brake pads at Murrays discount auto. Those of you who do not live in Detroit, Chicago, or Cleveland areas will prob. not be familiar. But I believe you can shop on line at murraysdiscountauto.com. I know in the store they sell for 49.99 and you get 10 bucks back in the mail. Great price!!!!
