Brake Squeal??
 

Last month I replace the brakes on my 2002 Bonneville. I did front and rear rotors and ceramic pads from Max Advanced Brakes. I couldn't pass up the price at $120 for pads and rotors. everything went fine until last week when my brakes started squealing every time I had to stop. I did clean and re-grease the slide pins but I didn't use anything on the pads to prevent the squealing. With all the anti squeal products out there what should I use to make the squealing go away?? (other than more expensive pads and rotors)

120 bucks for 4 rotors and 2 sets of pads.....sometimes you get what you pay for....

Have you determined if it is front or rear making the noise?

You can spray Brake Quiet to the "back" of the pads to see if that helps....make sure you sand/clean the mating surface of the caliper that touches the back of the pad.....did you get new hardware with the pads? Clean the contact surfaces before installing the hardware?

With money tight I had to take a chance on the cheap price. I thought I would get at least 6 months out of them and get me back into warmer weather and longer days.

I think it is the front right that is squealing but not completely sure. as far as hardware, I replaced the hardware on the front ones. The right front was a problem getting the caliper off. one of the bolts/slide pins stripped while trying to get it loose. ended up having to torch it out. The torch melted one of the rubber boots hence the need for the front hardware kit.

I know I need to take them apart and try the anti-squeal stuff. I am just not sure what the best product to use is. there is the red stuff in the squeeze bottle, the spray on stuff, or high temp brake grease??

I did do some cleaning of the surfaces but not as much as I would have liked to. I was loosing daylight and needed to get the wheels back on.

Good stuff recommend by Tech II, I use that on the back of all brake pads, and if I put on new rotors I use this to help keep them quiet till they break in a bit, you spray it on the rotors braking surface, it may be overkill, but I like to use it.

Thanks to Tech II for the product recommendation and WilliamE for his post. I'll pick up a can later today and pray for a warm enough day to work on the car. William's comment about spraying anti-squeal directly on the rotor braking surface is new to me. I was always told not to use anything on the braking surface with the exception of brake parts cleaner?

The product I mentioned is basically an aluminum based spray, which is why it is safe to use directly on the rotors braking surface, of course you should clean the rotor with brake cleaner first, let it dry, then lightly/evenly coat the surface.
