Bonnie feels like she's jumping on the Road
 

Hey everyone, I am hoping someone out there can help me.

My 2001 SLE feels like it is jumping all over the road. YOu go over a bump or one of the many potholes out there and the car skips or better yet it feels like the arse end kicks out on me. I am very nervous in the winter when driving. Has anyone had a similar problem and how was it fixed.

I have replaced the two rear air shocks but it still does it. I also think there is a leak in the air lineor something because the compressor runs all the time. Every few minutes. Yes I know it is supose to re-pressurize when the car starts but this keeps on when the car is in use.

I have also bought new tires. The next thing on my list is to look at any bushings on swaybars etc to see if they are screwed.

Please help. I love this car and want it riding like it was. Any help would be great.

You are on the right track.

Look into the compressor running all the time. Check the front struts and all 4 endlinks.

The automatic level control switch has been known to cause issues where it will cause the pump to run and raise the back end up all the way. This creates the symptoms you are describing. Is the back higher than normal?

What is normal? It looks fine but now that I look at it may be a little higher than when I got it.

Also Where exactly is the switch, Are you talking about the one behind the rear driver tire?

Yep, that sounds like the right one. It should have an arm attached to the lower control arm to sense the height. I haven't had it happen to me, but from what others have said, it is quite obvious that it is too high.

Sounds like the load leveler or compressor to me. I am not sure of anything tho. I just give a guess of what might be wrong.

You'll know if the rear of your car is sitting higher than normal, because if the system is functioning properly, the car will be level ;)

I have the same problem with the back end of the car jumping sideways. Living in Wisconsin during the winter, this car is very difficult to drive on snow / ice covered roads. When you go from snow or ice covered section of the road to a section where the car can get traction, the back end of the car jumps sideways. When you go back onto the snow / ice covered section again - it again jumps. Even driving 25 mph through the neighorhood streets in the winter, with the trees shadowing part of the road from the sun, the car will jump everytime the road condition changes. With the road being icy, I have to slow down considerable compared to past cars I have driven.

I do not know what the solution is - but I am trying to get it resolved.

Maybe I need 4 wheel alignment?

Anyone else have this problem and resolve it? :roll:

To add to the above:

The rear end of the car does not sit up too high. I am aware of the lever switch setup under the rear of the car.

My compressor does not run - hardly at all, unless I am starting the car up or changing rear end loads.

We need help! :cry:
