thermostat question on the 00
finally getting around to doing the drilled 180 and i went to pick it up at autozone today... they had the thermostat and o-ring on the computer, but nothing showed up for the gasket except for some sealant.. i had him look up the 98gtp motor to find the gasket number... they should be the same right?

Interesting. Looks like a different design on the gaskets. 92-99 to my knowledge have a thermostat rubber gasket and a paper water outlet gasket. However a quick search of Advances online site does not show the paper.

Heres some info on the t-stat questions about what years need gaskets and what years don't. There was a design change to the t-stat outlet housing in 99 and no gasket was needed after the design change. Here'* the info from GM.
Edit: This info may look a little confusing since I just copied and pasted it. I think everyone can figure it out though.

There may be some confusion as to the correct thermostat application for the above mentioned vehicles when ordering a replacement part due to a design change for the 1999 and 2000 MY vehicles. The design change will affect service replacements of previous 90 degree V6 engines.
The new design will not fit previous 90 degree V6 engines due to a change in the position of the pintle and a different shape of the upper thermostat assembly. Refer to the following figure for identification of the current thermostat.
Important: Noticeable offset of the pintle position.
Parts Information
Parts are currently available from GMSPO. The following table contains: part numbers for the thermostats, the type of housing, whether it uses a gasket or O-ring, and their respective part numbers. The information is listed by year, then engine RPO code. Use the table to order the correct replacement thermostats.

RIP
True Car Nut
Mine just has the rubber O-ring also. I've swapped between the 180 for winter and 195 for summer without any leaks.
Edit - Oops, had that bakkereds...make that 195 for winter, and and 180 drilled for summer.
