Is your parking brake light on as well?
1) Check your brake fluid level
2) Check that the alternator is giving out proper current
3) Possible Wheel Speed Sensor malfunctioning or disconnected.
Edit: Please put your year, and trim along with any mods in your sig so we have more information to help you

How about, does your car have the steering wheel controls for the radio? I replaced the steering wheel controls in both my sisters 1997 GP GT, and my brothers 1998 GP SE, and in both of them (I don't really know why) just pulling the controls out of the wheel caused the Air Bag light to come on. I'm wondering if the wires might have been moved and wiggled the connection of the air bag causing the light to go off.
Also, was your car in an accident ever that had set the bags off? When the dealer/body shop put the new bags in the may not have reset the body module or bag module.

no brake lights are on
Alternator is putting out just a touch over 14.5 volts
Brake fluid is full
There are no controls on the steering wheel
Still stumped

Actually this is a serious problem. If the airbag light remains on the airbags will not deploy if you are involved in an accident. My bet is the same as Pontiac Dad'*. I had the same problem with our Montana Van last year. The part plus installation was close to $400.00.I hope for your sake it is just a loose connection.

SIR = Supplementary Inflatable Restraint, I think
There are some other locations that could be checked for loose connectors also. There are three impact sensors with connectors. The side impact sensors are located on the lower portion of the center pillars. The front end discriminating sensor is located under hood in vicinity just aft of left headlight. The connectors under each of the front seats (power to actually deploy airbag), and under the passenger side dash, and finally in the steering wheel. All SIR connectors are yellow. Remove the SIR fuse in the rear fuse block before attempting to check secure any connectors. Fuse #8 15A (SIR) Rear Fuse Block.
