Default Idle speed

Why does my 2000 SE idle at 650 or lower instead of 750 at a stoplight in drive?

Does it seem to be idling low, also? It'* possible the pointer on your tach could be a bit off. The idle speed is controlled by the PCM mostly by adjustment of the idle air control. You could try cleaning that, as well as the throttle body and MAF sensor.

Mine idles at 650...however it DOES drop about once or twice during a stoplight and the automatic choke kicks in and brings it back up. I'm hoping that replacing the PCV valve will do something to correct the problem. But, I was under the impression that 650 was the OEM idle speed, not 750. Maybe the SE'* are different from the SSEi'*?

Without a scan tool, it'* impossible to know the truth about the RPM and most of our gauges. There is a certain amount of inaccuracy built it.

While the RPM is probably not an issue, seems like the rough idle might be. Please start a thread about that when you are ready.
