Hey do the 2001 Bonnevilles have notorious transmission problems? as bad as the UIM and LIM? is it a predictable problem at 125-130k miles? I have one 113xxx miles do I need to dump this car? No symptoms yet but......

Keep up with fluid and filter changes and it should be fine.

I have 175,000 on my 2001, and the only tranny problem I have is harsh shifting, which is likely related to a bad PCS (pressure control solenoid). I am thinking of installling a shift kit to offset this problem. All in all, properly maintained this is a good tranny.

You'll like that shift kit. Nice and clean shifts that command respect. Especially under WOT.

Teh transmission has a couple known weak points: the 4th gear clutch hub and 00+ the EPC soleniod. Being a weak point though doesn't necessarily mean they will fail at a specific mileage, it only means... these are the most common issues.

The EPC appears to mostly be a 2000+ issue and can frequently be fixed/offset with a shift kit and Lucas goop as 2kg4u mentioned. The 4th clutch hub was a part that wears over time and the replacements are hardened. Over time they wear and strip out, which makes 4th not work. With that said, I abused mine to 176K miles before rebuilding the trans by choice and 4th gear was still working.

When you guys install the shift kit, you do replace the pressure control solenoid as well, don't you?

Do you use a Trans-Go kit? We have not put any shift kits in these units yet. We just tighten the clearance in the 2nd and 3rd clutch packs.

We may try a kit in the next Mass State Police Impala that we do, since you guys seem to like them so much.

The only changes in the shift kit is spacers on the 1-2 and the 2-3 pistons. The kit from intense racing also adds more springs. These shorten the shift time. No sensors are changed. When added to a PCM update the pressure is increased.
