if you are talking about the black plastic things, they hold the big plastic cover that goes up in the from of the trunk, and provide a little protection to the speakers.

What big plastic cover are you talking about? Do you have one and what does it look like?

Probably the plastic cover that those things are attached to...on the back of the seat... They look very out of place. I know I don't have them.

I have them in my 2000 SSEi as well and was always wondering the same thing??? Interesting that no one knows for sure what they are!! Guess I could take them out without any problem then!

Not in mine either. :? Judging by the foam on top, it looks like they were meant to be up against the top. Maybe they were just intended to protect those rods up above for the trunk lid, or else something else maybe was supposed to be up there. They look like they are adjustable?

That still does not answer my question. Why are they there and why is there a piece of foam in the middle. I checked my manual and no such things exist. Very odd indeed.

Not 100% true for the year. My 01 was built in June/July of 00 and I have them. It was the question of the day at NEBF....

I agree with viper8907 but it may serve another purpose, what I don't know. The black piece he'* referring to is the plastic piece on the back of the rear seat when you open the trunk.

If you figure out another use for the straps, lemme know....

Sings and Gumball, any thoughts?
