Default New to Bonneville'*, what are some performance parts?

OK, I am kinda new to Bonnevilles. I have been on the ClubGP forum for a while now and know a LOT about Grand Prix'*. This is my question. My mom has a 2000 SSEi that has every option except a CD-Changer, and it is Midnight Blue with camel interior. Since it is a late 2000 it has On-Star Also. It currently has just over 70K on it. We bought the car new in August of 2000. As of right now the performance modifications are:

K&N Air Filter in Stock Airbox
3.4" Thrasher Press-On Pulley
I-Win 1.9:1 Rockers
Taylor 8mm Spark Plug Wires
AC-Delco 41-932 Spark Plugs
Drilled 180 Degree Thermostat
Goodyear Gatorback Belts (4060715 Supercharger, and 4060922 Accessory)

These are all performance parts bought from Grand Prix performance stores except the Air Filter, Plugs, and T-Stat (purchased @ Autozone). I have never been on this forum until today, and I haven't even read any of the posts on here, so I don't know anything about anything that is specific to the Bonneville. I am hoping you can help me out here. The SSEi before the Rockers saw 7 degrees of KR and that was below 100mph, we didn't go higher than that with the scanner hooked up. I think the car is still seeing KR after the rocker install even though we haven't scanned it yet. What are some simple and cheap mods that help get rid of KR? Are there aftermarket Air Intakes available, and if not, how do you gut the stock airbox and will that help? Are there catback exhausts available? Are there aftermarket downpipes available? Can a reprogrammed computer be purchased (similar to the DHP'* on the Grand Prixs) since the stock computer sucks so bad? Are Fan Switches Available? Please help me out here. If there are any simple cheap mods that can be added to the SSEi with the mods it has that would help it out a lot, let me know. Anything will help. Also, do the Grand Prix TOG headers fit a SSEi? Thanks in advance for the help.

You've got a nice list going there already. The drivetrains are identical, as you already know. So anything internal will work fine if it works on a GP. Gutting the stock airbox is ok, but ideally you should use a custom intake. www.angryducktofuracing.com or www.domesticperformance.com or www.bonnevilleattitude.com will be able to help you with the intake. Cat-back exhausts are being worked on, as is an aftermarket downpipe. Most of this stuff is still in R&D (and an aftermarket crossover). Jet does have a chip for your car. Not sure who else does. The GP fan switches will work on the Bonneville.

I believe the TOG headers will fit. The differences between W and H body exhaust begins at the downpipe. A couple Series 2 guys here have TOG headers, but I don't know who has them installed yet.

Did that help any? We can narrow down some more specifics if you need it.

Thank you, that is very helpful. I have read some posts on here between when I first posted and now, and found out that a Borla Exhaust will probably be coming out soon. I told my dad this, and we may be getting one of those, since that is what is on his GTP and he LOVES it. Thank you for the links, they look helpful, and I didn't already know of any of them, which is unusual. From what I heard from scott cook, the air intake sucks and I didn't know if it was like the GTP'* or not, and I didn't know if gutting the airbox would do much good so I figured I would ask. Do you know where I can get the Jet chip, and what does it do? (Shiftpoints, Governor, Fuel Tables, etc..) It is also nice to know that the GP fan switches will work. I don't think we will be doing serious mods to it, because it is mostly a highway cruiser, as you can see since it is only 1 year and 9 months old and it has over 70K on it. We will definately be doing a mild shift kit, probably a Thrasher shift kit on the mildest setting, because the shifts SUCK when they are stock. We got dis-interested in the car when my dad got his '02 GTP and now that there is really nothing that we want to do left to do on the GTP, we have resorted back to the good old SSEi, although not completely. It has had most of its mods for a while (1 year or more) except the rockers which went on Saturday. Thank you for the help, and I look forward to doing some minor modding soon.

Default Borla Exhaust

Great news on the borla exhaust. Where did you read about it? I have been hounding Borla for 3 years now, and 2 years ago was told they were looking into it, but lately not even a response. I miss my borla that was on the '99 GTP. Of course I have to hear the thing everytime I see my bud'* car. Miss it like crazy.

I don't know much about the Borla'*, as I said I read it in a post. It sounds like it may be a while before they come out (6+ months) but from what I understood, they are in the R&D Stage right now. They do sound awesome though.

Check out our site at www.INTENSE-Racing.com. On the left hand side of the page, click on Performance Recipes. You'll fine LOTS of good information there.

Yes, The Other Guys headers will fit your car, as long as you convert over to a W-body dipstick.

Hope this helps.

I had a Borla exhaust on my '97 GTP, I really liked the sound, although it was a little restrictive.

It may have been a little restrictive compared to the other GP exhausts, but they flow VERY well. IMHO the 3" exhausts flow too good for most of the people that have them and they are losing too much backpressure. In some cases the 3" is necessary, but that is only with heavy modding and a cam.

BTW, I saw you run that SSEi at MGM and I could not believe the 15.1 when you pulled it off, and the car was only days old and bone stock. That was great, and it definately suprised me.

I knew about that, because I go to the INTENSE site for GP stuff all the time. I have been on that page many times. Thanks for the help though.

Scott, 1 thing I would like to know is how you jack up the back of the SSEi like you do at the track? And, is there a way to trick the automatic leveling into raising up all the way for the track? Thanks.

My intakes are listed here: http://www.bonnevilleattitude.com/st...products_id=99
Prices are in Canadian remember, so if you want it in USD, try the bottom RH side of the page & change the currency. Depending on where you live, it can be between 3 - 7 days for it to get to you.

I am also interested in that Borla system.
