2003 SSEi and compass problems

Hey all,

I got my Bonneville SSEi 3/10/03. About a month after I got the car I was pulling into the parking lot at my gym when the Compass decides to uncalibrate itself (you know the great chimes and DIC message). I really didn't think to much of it, I just recalibrated and forgot it. Tonight on the way to the gym, my compass magically uncalibrated again. I searched the old posts and saw that if you have an aftermarket system with good subs, you will have compass problems. My SSEi is bone stock, I do have the top level factory system. Could a factory stereo be causing the problem? When the compass uncalibrated the second time I was stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. I checked the dash and the DIC, no other warnings or unusual readings. Please tell me this is some normal stuff, if this is some kinda electrical kaboom like my Lesabers had, I will be bummin'

oh yeah, the first time my compass uncalibrated it look as if it also changed the zone from 9 to 8. I'm not sure if the bonehead at the dealer programmed it wrong or if this also was changed when the uncalibration occurred. Tonight it was still set on the right zone (9), just needed to be recalibrated.

Thanks for the help!

It's not normal.
Take it back to the dealer. You could have a faulty component. Warrantee will cover it.

If you don't have anything metal, magnetic, or goofy in your trunk, I would suspect one of two things:

1. Your trunk area around the compass module has become magnetized and needs to be degaussed.

or

2. Your compass module in the trunk is defective. My module went bad about two years ago, and I had to replace it.
