Default Help with transmission

Thank you, I couldn't figure out how to start a new thread so I put it at the end of the older one under the reply section. I appreciate any help you can give me on where to post a question. Im good with Motorcycles and small engines but on cars I need some advice with what to ck. The problem Im having is just what you repeated back, no 3rd and 4th unless I shift up to those gears manually. When I take off in 1st or 2nd and I push the gas to hard it slips and kinda vibrates but If I take it slow I can drive it. I used Amoco one time and my wifes car had to go back in 3 times and one of those times we were 200 miles from home so I could definately use some direction and if it is something I can do I would rather do it myself. Thanks again Darrell

I have the strange feeling you have a mix of computer and transmission issues. I would start by trying to pull some of the codes off the computer via the data port. Its in front of your left leg when in the drivers seat. You can borrow a code reader at any of the parts stores (Advance, Oreiley, Autozone, etc). Also, pull the transmission dip stick and check both the smell and the color. If it is pink and smells artificial, its good. If it is brown or smells burnt, there is most likely a problem. Further tests/ideas I will have to bump. Good luck.

I have a code reader that I bought at Walmart for 100.00 but I think it only reads the engine codes because it only showed a random misfire code, but I will take it to O'rielys and see if theirs shows any transmission codes and I will let you know wha they find, and thanks again

O'Reillys will not have a code reader that will read trans codes. Take it to a trans shop to get the codes read and diagnosed.

Took it today to a transmission shop and their code reader showed that everything was working the way it should. They said there was a bunch more test they could run and I could pay them to explore and it could get real exspensive and at that point they started drooling and looking at me funny so I jumped in my car and threw it in drive and sat there reving my motor but not going anywhere then I pulled it back into 1st an crawled out of there shuddering; Anyone know someone in the pensacola fl. area that I can bring it to have it repaired? or if there is anything else I need to check please let me know. and thanks to everybody for the help, I'm a harley davidson mech but I work on most motorcycles if I can return the favor just ask..

What color is the fluid? Is it dark brown and burnt smelling, or is it red and has a clean oily smell. I would say pick up a new filter and 7 quarts of fluid. Then drop the bottom pan and replace the filter. That is where your going to find out what your dealing with. If the pan has chunks, then you have big problems. If there is a thick layer of sludge, the clutches are likely worn.

I checked the transmission dipstick and it looks good and doesn't smell burnt at all. I have access to a car lift so I will go ahead and grab a filter and fluid and check that today, I will let you know what I find. Thanks again D

If you have access to a oil pressure gauge, you can check the trans oil pressure. The test port is right on top drivers side. Check in all gears.
