2001 SSEi Oil Pressure Gauge Reads 120 PSI

Any idea why my 2001 SSEi oil pressure gauge reads 120 PSI all the times? Should i change the cluster? Change the oil pressure switch? Any help would be great.

Aim to the oil pressure switch/sender. This is a pretty common issue on the 00+'s. Easiest way to get at it is through the passengerside wheel well. It is located directly behind the ps pump.

Cool, i will get that baby going soon.. Thanks Bill. man, both of my Bonnevilles are running much better since i joined the team.. :) ;)

WooHoo! So i went to Mr. GM and got a new oil pressure sending unit for $79-$20=$60 out the door. Installed it and now i got about 55-65 psi in park. Excellent work Bill. Appreciate the help.

:( You are not gonna believe this but the gauge is reading 120 PSI AGAIN!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH. I changed the oil pressure/ sending switch a few days ago and it was working fine until today!! I am so pissed. On top of that, i cracked one of the rear tail lights trying to separate the lens so i can remove the yellow reflector. Man, today is not my day huh? :( So what do you think, i should change the switch again? Take the sensor back to Pontiac and yell at them and hopefully they give me another (replacement) one and see how long the new holds up for? Any suggestions would be considered. :(

well if it's broken i would say replace it...

Well, i went back to GM and took the sensor back with me and looked up the part number, it came out as they give me the wrong part to begin with. The part they give me was PN 12584940 and the part i needed was PN 12574309. It was $15 more but is been holding up so far! ;)

I got the 120 psi back on the oil pressure gauge again. I guess there must be a short to ground somewhere in the system.

I would try a mechanical gauge before I started chasing down electrical. If the mechanical gauge shows 120 PSI, then you need to look at the oil pump and its internal pressure relief device.

This is the second sensor i replaced on this car and every time i replace the sensor, the gauge worked for 3-4 days and then back to 120 PSI. I am sure it is electrical problem for sure now. I even exchanged clusters around to make sure.... ;)

Oh boy, now i need to spend 1 week after hours tracing the short. Fun huh? :D
