2000 SSEI questions

ok well been driving the car for a few weeks now and have some questions.

it is a 2000 SSEI was a ones owner car car has 450600Kms. Always serviced at a dealer.

-sunroof does not work from what I see from the papers gm charged him 450$ to get it closed but did not put what was wrong with it. When I push the button nothing happens.

-Valve covers are leaking, how hard is it to change them, and at the same time manybe change the intake gaskets.( where last changed 124000kms ago)

-I have a bad rattle from the left rear but can't find anything

-compressor button not working in truckhave power at switch but it is not turning on compressor. Compressor does work, hear it when I start the car.

Also one very important question, what do I start to mod on this car to get a little more, I drive it everyday about 150kms, it is fun to drive right now but would like a little more get up and go.

Thanks in advance for any help from this great site :thumbup2

Check fuese and if the fuse is good, pull the button panel down and check for power at the switch. There has been some issues with wire damage under the headliner for the vanity mirrors and the sun roof.

Changing the valve cover gaskets is not a huge job, not is it that difficult. if they are leaking, you should get them changed ASAP. There has been instances where oil has leaked onto the exhaust manifold, which is suspected of causing fires.

Is the rattle all the time? When you go over bumps, or?

You need to have a hose hooked up to hear the compressor work or not. Once the ELC sense that the system has pressure in it, the compressor shuts off.

Before you do any moding, you need to take care of these little problems and make certain that the car is up to par with all maintenance items. As far as modding, the best thing yo can do for you SSEi is make it breath better. Open the exhaust and remove the restrictions. There's is lots of info in the forum about intake and exhaust mods. Use the search funtion.

I agree with Purple. If you do intake and exhaust work you will have a beast on your hands

Could somebody point me into the right place to find info on how to take the sunroof switch down.

as for the rattle just when I hit bumps, almost sounds like a broken stabilizer bar, but as far as I can tell it is ok.

and again thanks a lot for the info

It's a stubborn little cus, but it will pop out. It's held in place with four retainer clips. Having some interior trim removal tools will help you get into the area of the clips and pop them out.

I'd think that once the dealer got it closed, they unplugged the switch.

On the compressor, Kev..you have to have key on for it to work right? Otherwise the power relay for the compressor probably won't work.

The compressor wont work with the key on or off with the hose on or off. The compressor does run when the car is first started but it shuts off( my montana van does the same). I don't know what to check next. Does somebody have a wiring diagram for the sunroof??

thanks

You are right Bill. They key has to be on for the compressor to run.

well small update the sunroof switch was unplugged, I plugged it in and it works great. So no clue why they had charged him so much to close it. As for the compressor gave up on it, can't get it going.

thanks
