since your original question was in the 2000 forum, I assume that is the car you are talking about....if not, you may want to try the right thread.

I think Hoovey was perplexed as to why 2000+ Bonnes and 95-99 Auroras have the battery in the backseat...I'm sure it was a general curiousity question

thanks does gm just like to **** people off
it just seam easier to put the battery in the regular sopot other than the seat becasue then you have to deal with the vent for the sulfuric acid fumes and what not...

I read somewhere that it was placed under the rear seat to help with weight distribution on the unibody, but who knows. You're right though, the vent system that goes with the batt being in the passenger compartment could be a hassle. My '72 VW bug had the battery underneath rear seat...that was a few yrs ago.

Just as a bit more info,.....according to the Bonneville Spec Sheets, the battery in the new-Gen SSEi'* are bigger than the SLE'* or SE'*,.....12" long, compared to 10" long.Good idea,IMO,to locate the battery under the rear seat,....that'* a lot of battery/extra weight to be stuck in the right-side nose of the car,....can definately see where it could/would provide a better car handling balance with it under the rear seat
