Just bought a 2001 SSEi, need some advice

Default Just bought a 2001 SSEi, need some advice

A few weeks ago, I bought an awesome 2001 SSEi with 33k miles on it. Last week I added a 180 t-stat, no problems. Here is what I want to do next:

1) C-Ya PCM upgrad (does anyone know if these guys are reputable?)
2) 3.4 SC pulley
3) RSM cold air intake

Question: will the stock transmission hold the upgraded power or would it be doomed to failure? Also, any feedback on the C-Ya Racing guys would be great. Last, will the 3.4 pulley make a big difference? Thanks for the feedback.

New t-stat is fine, no leaks or anything. She does not run much cooler though.

I swear, this is the greatest car I have ever owned!

I love my 2002 SE. I installed a Thrasher CAI (made for Grand Prix). If you are interested, I actually did a step by step with photos. I have a N/A engine, but the install is the same.

The 3.4 will give you a nice HP increase you can feel. I would recommend 1 step cooler plugs when you do this to keep some of the heat down and reduce KR. You will also need a smaller SC belt (I recommend Gatorback). If your going to do the pulley i also recommend a modular system so you only have to use a pulley puller once. They are a little more in the beginning but make up for it if you plan on modding more in the future.

You will want to open up the engine with an air intake of some kind. This will help remove any KR as well as give you that nice SC whine we all love.

Any mods you do to the car are going to decresae the life of your tranny but with your low miles and depending on the way you drive it will probably be a while (unless you keep modding). With my mods below i'm pushing 370 lbs of torque against the GM rated 280 lbs. I have not seen much trouble from it but I know it will only be a matter of time. Intense racing makes some great products to help beef up your tranny or replace parts as they go.

Thanks for all of the great advice. What about the upgraded PCM from C-Ya? Anybody know about these guys? Do they make a good product?

I emailed Alan Ralston who has a Jet upgrade I can buy. I am skeptical about the Jet products though. I had a Jet Stage II for my Dodge Dakota and it was a paperweight.

Never heard of C-ya. I can tell you from my experience with Jet, they're great. However, the PCM is totally different in my car.

Sometimes a chip doesn't make that much of a difference (your Dakota for example) simply because there may not be much room for tuning.

I think DHP probably has the best reputation for PCM'* of this generation.

Been hunting around for the past week and It looks like dhp are the only ones to do a newer gen bonne. Cya says they can do it but I cant find anyone who has tried them out. Again intense can hook you up with a dhp chip.
