2000 SSEi A/C not cold
 

I bought my SSEi about this time last year. She's got 66K on the clock.

My A/c doesn't blow cold air. I was wondering where the valve is for the recharge kits. I'm not familiar with doing this.

Your best bet would be to take it in to the professionals, probably leaking to begin with.

Mine is doing the same, I took it in and they told me that my compressor is leaking. 540.00 to fix. I am recharging it to make it last a little longer till I can get the $$ together. The recharge port is on the passenger side right by the fuse block. The kits they sell will only fit one of the two fittings.

You may want to start with a good gauge, and check what your pressure is. It's a good possibility that you are low on freon, but there are other causes.

What ever you do, DO NOT add any kind of sealer to the AC system. That crap should be banned!! I do AC work at my shop. And if we find out that the customer has put a sealant in the AC system, we will not evacuate and recharge them system. The sealants do more harm than good. You really should leave that kind of work to certified HVAC technicians. If you dont have the proper equiptment to measure the amount of refridgerant and oil that you are putting in you can do damge to expensive components. You can do more harm by overcharging than undercharging.

I agree about the over and under charging 100%. Wrong levels simply don't work well at all.

On the sealant. It should be used as sparingly as possible if needed. However it's merely a band aid for the proper repair.

As far as your dealership not evacuating if you know sealer is in the system... that's a standard dealer attitude toward anything non stock or non dealer installed. I wish we could see more dealers get past that mindset. The customer frequently would be willing to have it evacutated and fixed properly.

I also want to make a note here... If the AC system has not been charged or touched in 7 years and its just now getting low..... Thats not bad at all..

Now the question is, are they sure there was a leak at the compressor? and what are they going to replace for $540?

We Put the gages on my buddies Malibu a few years back and charged the system per service manual spec... Its about 3 -4 years later and it still blows cold..

Most AC systems on cars/trucks will loose some refrigerant over time... Some more than others..

If you have the system refilled, I do recommend that someone with gages does it for you to get the system charged properly..

I have taken it to my mech and he had charged it to specs, then put the dye in the freon and founf that the compressor is leaking like a stuck pig. he is replacing the compressor with a delphi (facotry) one and recharging the system to specs. A good deal IMO

For 540 bucks that is a really good deal... Considering what that compressor costs, its well worth it ;)
