Default Auto Trans P-Code Question...

Hello all! My 00 Bonneville SLE has 243,000 and the Overdrive just took a crap... I called my local junkyard and asked if they have any trannys. They asked what P-code I have, which it turns out i have a PC code. What other P-codes will work with my car? They are telling me that I can only use the PC code because the tranny will not shift properly. Please help!!

They might be talking about a trouble code. You would need to scan the pcm for that. I dont think they are talking about RPO codes because a P code for a 00 might be for the wheel package the car was built with. Maybe they want a number off the tag on the trans?

there is a cretain code for the transmission for the gearing and such. It is marked on the side casing of the tranny. Mine is a PC. There is a PA PB and PC, maybe more. All I know is my car has the FK8 tranny code in the trunk and that means it has the 3.05 gearing. Still not sure what all codes will work in my car!

The easiest way I have found to check which transmissions will work properly is to look up an axle at say PartsAmerica.com. That site will mention the two or so RPO codes, then check your spare tire cover to see which code you have.

2000 should be able to use a trans from 99-02 IIRC. car-part.com will also be a good place to find interchange information.
