Just got a 2000 SLE and wanted to know what performance upgrades are most worth the money...?

ECU Upgrade?

Muffler Upgrade? heard something about borla'* sounding good... comments?

Intake Upgrade...? Thinking about a K & N right now, any other choices?

Is it possible to add supercharger to this 3800, or is a full engine replacement needed?

does ANYONE make white gauge faces for this year/model???

Several Companys make upgrades for the ECU/PCM many people have good experiences with www.intense-racing.com and you cant beat their price.. They have alot of products available for you


You will not see much performance gain from a cat-back system, most of your restriction is before the cat in your exhaust manifolds and downpipe. A Cat-back system would be for show only unless you wentbig with your car

your best bet would be changing out your stock rocker arms and valve springs, 180degree thermostat and an upgraded PCM to start with.. then decide JUST how far or how much money you want to put into performance

I am currently running a 02 SE, I have added an intense PCM, a ricer style cold air intake, 180* T-stat, and a flowmaster muffler with a ractive tip. I have had very good luck with my mods so far. If it were me I would get my car breathing better first, exhaust and intake and while you are under the hood go ahead and throw in a 180* T-stat. The 180* T-stat won't add power but It will keep the engine much closer to peak temps. Then once you get those done go ahead and get you a new PCM from Intense.
They are by far and away the best people to work with.

After that it is pretty much how wild you want to go and how deep your pockets are.

There are 1.9 ratio rockers, oil restricted pushrods, heavier duty valvesprings, ported exhaust manifolds, headers... the list goes on and on.

Start slow and build on what you got.

You said you put a cold air intake on your 02... I have been looking for a cold air kit for my 00 and havent had much luck. I have found a few that might work with some minor modding, but I want to stay sway from that as I dont have extra cash to spend on something that may not work... let me know what you went with and if you know if it will work on a 2000 3800 sle.

Congrats on your new ride, I just got an SLE but its a 2005, I am glad you a memeber here! Yes those parts like the intake should be able to work on you SLE! Nice ride what color is it anyways?

Alot of people here have done a ricer style cold air intake. Just go down to your local Autozone and buy the rice pipe it sells for around $30.00. They have a cone shaped air filter to mate up with the rice pipe but I would reccommend holding out for the K&N RX-4750. The rice pipe is the one in the orange and yellow packaging. You can buy the generic cone filter but like I said I wouldn't.

The rice pipe is a good fix for the CAI. I am currently running one, and I have the generic cone filter. I should be getting my K&N tomorrow however.

One thing to tell you though if you do decide to go with the rice pipe you WILL have to cut some off the pipe. Most of us who use this method have had to cut at least 3" to 4" off the pipe. Just mate it up to the TB and see how much you have to cut.

Oh yeah you will need a 4"-3" reducer to mate it to the TB.

By doing this type of CAI you will save lotsa bucks.

Horsepower increase Priceless

You can do the rice pipe CAI "conversion" or you can put a Thrasher CAI setup as well. Ricer is the easier way to go as the Thrasher would require a bit of inginuity[sp]. Or simply those that have 00+ Bonnevilles, throw up your pictures of your CAI setups

I recently took the amber inserts out of the front corner lights and replaced the clear bulbs with amber ones. Also replaced headlamps with hyperwhite bulbs ... what a difference.

Has anyone done this with the back lights? I havent taken them apart yet. I am hoping I can also remove the red inserts and replace with red bulbs... has anyone done this or know if its illegal or not?

I am also working on fitting a CAI from a honda civic. Im pretty sure I will be able to get it to work with some slight modification. My buddy accidentially drove his civic off an on-ramp and into a pond, so he gave me his CAI for free. I will post pics of this when and if I get it to work.

Another question I had was about brakes and rotors.

I have had the car for about 2 weeks now and they are already starting to rust, which I hate because you have these nice wheels and tires with ugly rust behind them.

What rotor and brakes work best on this model? (2000 SLE)

I would really like to go with a ceramic brake caliper (preferably black or grey in color)
to dress the looks of the brakes up. And the rotors, I would just like something that wont rust as quick or at all.

I am not planning to put tons of money into performance, I am trying to go for a clean-looking and clean-running vehicle.

Performance wise; I am looking at PCM, CAI, T-Stat and possible valve springs and rocker arms... so I dont think I will need to necessarily need to upgrade the brakes to anything over the top.
