2000 SE Brake Job
Hey guys--
I've done several brake jobs but none on my Bonneville yet. Anything interesting I need to know about? What kind of pads do people prefer?
Thanks.

This is a good question as I will be doing so on my 2K ssei. Do I need a special tool for the job, or are general tools good enough?

Went well. Plus, I got to buy a nice new breaker bar in the process. :p I love the feeling of new brakes after having the rotors turned. No surging at stop signs, firm brake pedal...oh yes, very nice. I'm hoping it will solve at least a little bit of the high-speed shimmy we are all aware of too. I need to wear out my RSA'* quicker so I can stick some better tires on it!
On the downside, I discovered both tie-rod ends are loose, the left being severe. Cannot notice it in the steering wheel which I found odd. I'm surprised it went out so soon with only 47K on the clock. Oh well, it must be fixed...and this after an 800-mile round-trip to Omaha and back three weeks ago. Yikes!
Let me know if anybody has any questions. I'll be doing the rear discs soon. Didn't have time over the weekend.
Thanks.

One thing I have to give the RSa'* is tear wear. They have been on the rear of the car since new and still have half their tread life left. I have chewed through my front RSa'* , And on second set of gForce'* on the front. The gForce'* have far superior handling and traction the the RSa'* but dam are they soft. But for $82 bucks a whack and the constant chirping I give the tires, I deal with it.

Yeah, my RSA'* lasted around 50,000 miles with proper rotations. Not bad considering the treadwear rating is what, 260 or something like that?
I'm using Pirelli P-zero nero'* now. Definitely a better tire, but for the cost I got my value'* worth from those stock RSA'*.
Glad to know the break job went well. I'll be doing mine in the next week or two. Anything worth noting as to the procedure, or was it pretty much brainless?
