Hey Good People, So My Air Conditioner stopped working, The AC Clutch Wont even engage, so No cold air in this Hot *** Weather of Ours in MD. So I don't even know where to start looking or Checking. It was Working Perfectly Before I Parked it for some Months, So its a Shocker to Me. At 1st I though I should be a Switch Or connection problem, as I don't think I'm already Out of Freon (Car Only has 69K original Miles).
But then again I had a very bad accident with it last Year where I had to replace My Sub/K Frame, So could that have poked a Hole in My AC lines? And Made the Freon Leak out slowly? Or I'm just over exaggerating?
I read where someone suggested how to test if You have Freon in the system & that is to press down on the Low Pressure side on the AC line, if it Hisses then There is Freon in the system, which I did & It Hissed. So I assumed I had Freon, Or could this not be a good way to check it?

I Just need help on checking the Electrical Parts 1st before Dumping Freon in case I shouldn't be doing so to avoid causing more damage.

Just because you had a hiss come out, doesn't mean you have enough pressure to trip the low side switch.

A/C systems are delicate. Too much or too little freon can cause issues. And simply dumping a can in may increase the pressure, but may add too much pressure. Or you are already at spec, but you may have a bad low switch or just a bad compressor clutch.

Either way, it would be in your best interest to have it checked out by a shop. You may think that'* expensive, but compared to doing it yourself without the proper tools will cause more havoc.

You maybe could try checking fuses and reseating wiring connections on the off chance it'* corrosion or a bad connection, but otherwise, I agree with this 100%. It'* easier to screw something up if you are not sure what'* going on than letting the professionals look at it.

Wonder why no one ever told Me to Use a Gauge to Check the Freon pressure in My system?... That'* A No Brainer... Thank GOD For A Place Like YouTube!!
I Went ahead Bought One of them R-134 Cans with stop leak and Moisture Removal that came with a Gauge, & plugged it into the Low Side, It Read ZERO (0) which meant that I was completely empty, thus why My AC Compressor Clutch won't engage - A Safety measure. So I proceeded to add Freon, & to My surprise the Clutch kicked on - Just like that! it was like Magic to Me . Anyway, went ahead & dumped the whole can in there, the Pressure came up some, but not where it'* supposed to be, & by now, I'm getting cold air from the Vents. I also bought another can with the UV Dye & stop leak to See if I can trace any leaks. After Dumping the 2nd Can, The needle got in the Green Zone where its supposed to be. There, I had Cold air Blowing in The Face.
I'll Keep an eye on it and check it couple more times in the coming days to make sure the Pressure/Level doesn't drop again. So until then, I'll consider this one mission accomplished.

Why didn't we suggest using the idiot cans from Autozone? Because that'* just it. They are idiot cans. Untrustworthy gauges. You have now just contaminated your AC system. You never pulled a vacuum and probably just wasted $50 worth of freon that'* just going to leak back out. And your expansion valve is now clogged with stop-leak. This is why we didn't suggest it. This is why AC systems are left for the professionals.

The system starts getting contaminated as soon as system pressure drops to atmospheric and moisture starts getting drawn back in. At least now you have dye in the system and can use a black light to find the leak yourself, and won't have to pay someone to track it down.

Now with no vacuum pulled there is moisture in the system and the dryer can only hold 1 table spoon worth of water.
After that it dumps it in the system.
Water + Freon = acid that will eat the most thin part of the system first.
The evaporator under the dash.
So I would plan to flush your system replace the dryer and expansion valve
Before its to late!!!
