2002 Catalytic Converter Replacement
Did asearch and couldn't find anything on the converter replacement on the 2002 SSEi. My converter is rattling like mad and the dealer confirmed that it needs to be replaced. They want $1,100 for the part. I have found converters for $380 and have decided to do the replacement myself. Any words of wisdom on what I'll run into taking the old converter off? Any special tools needed? Thanks in advance.

And then that magnaflow cat would set a check engine light for low efficiency.
You need the cat that starts with a G.. I forget the actual name. That would keep your pcm happy.

Purple swears by his Goerlick converter. My Magnaflow throws a low efficiency SES just about every day, but it sounds awesome. Maybe score the ZZP downpipe without the converter and have someone weld in a Goerlick. I think you'd still be $$$ ahead of the game.

if your car has under 80,000 or 100,000 ( i forget what the exact miles are) miles you can have the cat replace under warrenty from the GM dealer. Yes its warrentable item, believe it or not. The EPA demands the OEM auto manufactures to do this

It is 75,000 miles. If your vehicle has less than that, EPA mandates that the manufacturer waranty the converter. I work for NY State Dept. of Environmental Conservation. That'* why I know.
