2000 Sunroof doesn't retract but motor works
I took this to a shop and he said someone was just in there with the same problem (he didn't even look at it), he said that pontiac does not sell the glass and motor seperate, he said it required a whole new assembly. Even though I suspect it'* just off track or a busted belt. Anyone have any info on this? The guy quoted $1300.00!

It sounds like it is working perfectly, but the glass does not move back and forth. It does pop up, but if i press the down button, it stays up unless I push it down with my hand, and then it locks in place. I cannot move it up again unless I use the button.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well guys, I can't tell you much, as yours are the only Bonneville sunroofs I've EVER seen fail, so I'm guessing the 2k+ is slightly different.
The motor is turning, but there'* no telling if some end-actuator broke or not until you pull it out. The same may be true where it meets the glass. Where did the piece break?
The glass itself is over 400 bucks.
The air deflector (not that it matters) is 65 bucks or so.
The 'module' which is the entire frame, and all the brackets and framework that extend into the roof is about 1300 buckaroos.
The motor itself will set you back over 500, but the contol unit alone is only 38 bucks. Damn hard to tell without pulling the guts out.

Well I took it to the dealer and he told me that it was definitely the actuator on the passenger side but he couldn't replace it because he can't buy just the actuator alone he must by the whole sunroof "setup"??
Which he pointed out would cost me a lot more than I needed to spend. So I searched GM parts Direct and found it for $125. Do you think this is a fix that I can do myself or should I try a sunroof installation place? I would like to attempt it but I am worried about taking the headliner out, and having it not be tight when I reinstall it and that it would bunch up and hang down if I don't put it back together right, anyone have any experience with dropping the headliner in a 2000??

Same here!
Glad I found this post. My 2000 Bonneville has the same problem. I removed the glass and can see the ends of the actuator on both sides that connect to the glass frame were broken. The motor works fine just two little plastic pieces broken and I'm not about to pay $1300 to fix. If anyone can help me find just the parts needed I believe I can replace them. Thanks.

sunroof
yeah my sunroof has the same problem. for a few weeks, the sunroof needed some "help" in closing -- the motor was working, but the glass was really slow to move.. so i gave it a helping hand.. and it closed nicely. since then, one side of the sunroof is stuck.. the other side is closed normally. i knew it was going to be expensive to fix it.. so i took the low road and got some bathroom clear silicone caulking.. and well.. you know what i did with it! doesnt leak anymore! maybe one day i'll get around to fixing it the right way.. but i have other more important problems with the car to deal with.
