Intermittent Check Engine Light
Started getting this code at beginning of Winter once temp dropped to 35 degrees F and below. It is only intermittent, staying on for only 1 or 2 days. Will return after 2 to 6 weeks of driving. No code can be scanned when light is out. I was lucky enough to have the danged light come on as I was approaching an Autozone. They pulled a code (can't remember the code), but the dude said it was a fault in the Water Temperature Sending Unit. I've purchased a new unit (just about crapped when I priced a $10 gallon of antifreeze today!) but have not installed yet.
My water temp (me thinks) runs a little cool. In summer never, ever gets above 200 degrees F, but this Winter she sits on about 170-175 degrees F with temps below 30 degrees F.
Here comes my ignorance....................
Is that the temp sensor I see on the driver front side of the engine (close as heck to the exhaust manifold outlet), or is there another location........ like on the radiator?
Gotta get me a manual. Thanks

The ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor is located directly below the t-stat. It points down at an angle.
The proceedure for replacing the ECT sensor is as follows:
The proceedure for replacing the ECT sensor is as follows:
- Drain coolant level down below that of the ECT sensor
- Disconnect the wiring
- Remove the ECT sensor
- Coat the threads of the replacement ECT sensor with sealant (anything that is rated for cooling system use)
- Reinstall ECT sensor and torque to 15 ft-lbs (20N.m)
- Refill coolant system
