About 6 months ago I found my bonneville wouldnt start when I turned the key over.

The lights came on, the radio everything, but once I turned the key over nothing would happen, the engine didnt even try to crank. After exhausting my limited knowledge trying to fix it I broke down and had it towed to Midas where they determined 4 hours and 500 dollars later it was a LOOSE WIRE under my fusebox.

Now I have the same problem- all light come on radio, etc, but when I turn the key over there is no cranking. On a hunch I tried checking all the fuses and lightly pressing down on the fuse box to hopefully to fix it on some off chance, and my car started up fine.

After repeating this cause and effect about 5 or 6 times (over 3 or 4 days) it now does not fix the problem.

I was hoping someone might have some knowledge on this and may be able to direct me on if taking out the fuse box to find this wire is a DIY job or am I screwed?

You need to check the connections for corrosion. Clean them up and apply some dielectric grease. Something is loose or corroded.

Thoreau, I had this problem a couple years back. Frustrated after many weeks with changing wires and fuses and wiggling anything remotely electrical under the hood to try to get my car to start, I finally caved and took it to the dealer to get it fixed.

They had my car for over a week and actually claimed they fixed the problem twice; only to have the car end up not starting when I went to go pick it up. Same symptoms, turn key and nothing; lights are on but no ones home. Eventually they changed the starter motor/starter solenoid and viola!, the problem was gone. Luckily my dealer was honest/nice enough not to charge me for the other things they did that didn't fix the problem including changing the PCM.

Also, my brother'* Saturn LS had the same problem a few months ago. I told him the same story about my car. So we changed the starter and after his car started fine.

So changing the starter might be worth a shot.

I remembered another member having this problem a couple years back. here'* what the dealership found in his case.

Definately a good place to srart, depending on where you were pressing, I'd address that area first.

Give a few of the things already listed a try.

i`ve got same problem as above, have changed starter, ignition switch, checked all the fuses as well as moved a few of the relays around , ran the reset for the security .still no go. I am going to try the fuse box idea, because it seems like a loose wire,dealer says it`* probly the body control module & for approx. $ 500.00 they can fix . Open to any other ideas that may be out there before doing this. Please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thxs all, todd

Todd...you already have it well under control. There'* little else that should cause the issue. Check for fuel and spark, determine which is missing, then trace them back. That'* all we'd do.

Can`t get that far, engine doesn`t even try to turn over ,battery less than year old & also have tried to jump it , with no luck either. Any other ideas ?

You can test a starter soleniod wire etc by jumping from the main power lead on the starter to the soleniod. However..doing so with a screwdriver, expect sparks and take the needed precautions that go with doing what normally isn't done.

Yup, did that too. It`* like something between battery & starter is wrong, checked fuse box under hood & #19 fuse changed .WELL I`VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS , TO THE GARAGE IT GOES .HOPE IT DON`T HURT TO BAD .WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW THE OUTCOME & COST.
