Worth upgrading the brakes?

From what I can hear while stopping, it sounds like it's time for another front-wheel brake job. (Not hearing as much as a squeak from the back.)

I'd like to not bring it to a shop this time -- over year and a half ago, they did an amazing job, but the bill for front pads, front rotors, rear cylinders, and replacing a leaking rear caliper was a bit hard to swallow.

Stock parts are fine, but what are my options as far as upgrades go? I thought I heard that SE's can be fitted with SSEi brake parts… is that true? Would it even be worth it? (I've never complained about the stopping power of (fresh) brakes on this car.)

ive heard something about f body brakes being swapped to bonnies i do not know how easily if they directly bolt on but if it is a complete no hassle no mod swap id do it cause ive had many f bodys and the brakes were amazing ill wait for somebody else to chime in im not a brake specialist

I and many here would recommend R1 Concepts rotors. They're excellent rotors and priced very well.

As far as pads go, I would VERY highly recommend Akebono Pro-ACT Ultra Premium, or Bendix CT-3 pads, both of which can be found on rockauto.com. These will make an immense difference in braking. I have recommended the combination of these brake pads and R1 concepts rotors to many people, and they have all been very impressed with the results. Not pleased, but impressed.

Since SSEi brakes are identical to SE brakes (front and rear) you can definately swap them on. However you won't notice a bit of difference. :w3

The F body conversion has only been done by one person that I know of, 95NASTA. He did a knuckle conversion as well as a strut conversion at the same time. I'm unsure if the Bonneville strut would work with the knuckles he used.

If you'd like to learn how to swap brakes and properly flush/service the system, let me know and we can do it.

Ah, that must be what I'm thinking of. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, because like I said, it already stops on a dime (with fresh brakes).

Thanks for the recommendation!

I know someone closer who can do discs, but knows nothing about drums. You win. PM sent.

Did I mention the power bleeder to flush all your 1925 brake fluid and or the suggestion of changing the brake hoses to the front wheels. Over time they come apart and can act as a partial check valve that doesn't release the brakes fully. This can warp rotors. I'll make you clean and lube everything properly while you are doing the brakes. Not sure if you are buying rear shoes and drums??

So far I think the plan should be:
Replace hoses, pads and rotors
Power bleed/flush entire system
Inspect and adjust rears

I second the R1 suggestion. My Regal has them. If you'd like I can show you how to kiss a dash while wearing a seat belt. Anytime weekdays next week M-Th will work or it'll have to be the week after M-F, I'm solidly booked F-Su next week with a motor/trans pull/redo/reinstall.

Keep in mind, you'll be learning how to do this work, I will only be on hand for instruction and supervision with the one or two assists. :D
