Default wheel bearing play question

I am thinking my rt front hub and bearing is failing. It makes that telltale humming/roaring/tire like noise above 20 mph. goes away When I am turnING the wheel. I got 4 new tires and nothing changed LOL. I replaced one 8 mos ago with 1 from the junk yard but I dont remember which one L or R. I have to check my records. So anyway I jacked it up and pushed the tire in and out at the top. Theres enough play to allow noticeable movement and a small metaL banging noise. The left front has some play but way less. How much movement should there be If its good?

There should be no play. I wouldn't suggest using a wrecker part again, either. It'* bad for them to have high mileage, and even worse to sit in one place for extended periods of time.

If there'* left to right play, but not up and down, look at steering/suspension. If it'* up and down and left to right, look at the wheel bearings.

Play at 12:00 O'Clock could also indicate ball joint wear.

yes side to side play will be inner or outer tie rods
in and out play can be wheel bearings and or ball joints

buttermore is correct best way to check ball joints is to jack the front end up slightly they use a crow bar under the wheel and pry up on the bottom of the wheel and check the ball joint for play
ball joints tell tale sign is a popping noise as you turn
wheel bearing hum while cruising and quite in turns
tie rods shimmy you across the road when bad

I replaced the left fromt hub and bearing today. cracked the lugs and put it on a jackstand. Where is the right place to put a jack stand? I removed the tire and mag, removed the spindle nut and caliper. Then disconnected the ABS connector. Removing the dust shield and hub bolts let the hub and bearing slipped right off. It went back together slick and clean except I tried to put the top caliper bolt in first And after craning all around with a dim flashlight I tried from bottom Up and the rest was downhill. The noise is gone and the steering is solid. I would have befm wise to check the ball joints
