Thanks to Geoff I got the little light cover I needed and the headlight switch is working properly. My problems I have left are as follows:

1. The gas door will NOT stay shut. Doesnt seem like it closes correctly (Spring?) Anyone else fight this and win?
2. Tonight taking off from a stop (slowly) I heard 2 soft kind of clunks like something braking from the drivers rear of the car and now it seems to ride kinda sloppy(no clunking since though) in the rear. Any one have a guess before tomorrow when I can get out there and actually see what did happen? i am hopeing it isnt too serious.

Yeah I know I was more or less tryin to make a little game of it. I will let everyone know tomorrow and get a pic of what I find just tryin to see if I could make it fun ya know? I broke a spring on my 97 GP once and it was MUCH louder than this clunk.

You might have broken a rear brake shoe..now it'* rattling around inside the drum hanging occaisionally.

I have that problem. In my case the gas door spring is broken and it looks like it would be a real PITA to fix/replace. I also would like to know if anyone here has fixed this before, and how. We can't be the only ones to have experienced it, can we? :?:

Yes, you're right. It is the spring that'* bad. However, it'* not hard to replace. You have to buy a new fuel door. It costs about $37 from gmpartsdirect.com. Prime and paint it to match the body color.

To replace it, unscrew the gas cap, then unscrew the 4 torx screws holding the plastic cover in place. Remove it. Then, behind the hinge for the fuel door you'll find two nuts that are on studs from the hinge (they go through the fender panel). Unscrew those. Remove the fuel door from the car.

Very easy...should take about 5 minutes.

Thanks all for the info on the gas door. Here is the result of my noise from yesterday! I just picked it up from my friends suspenssion shop after the repair. I will get you pictures of the repair when I can.
New bushing, new bolt and a WHOLE lot of welding. I wonder why my mechanic didnt catch the BROKEN bolt back there!! My friend said it looks to have been broken and been putting pressure on that spot until yesterday when it couldnt hadle it anymore.

Glad you were able to get that bolt and mounting bracket repaired before the second bolt gave out! Things would have gone south in a big hurry.

A friendly suggestion....the picture would be a little easier to see if you would bump it down to about half that size. The "billboard" setting on your camera doesn't work the best for forum postings, especially for us on dial up that are to tight to spring for a fast connection.
