Default What the heck is that and what is it for?

I have a 96SE there is a hole on the dash just to the left and almost to the windshield in front of the sterring wheel. It looks like something plugs in there. it is molded in so it is not aftermarket.

I stuck my finger in it and felt nothing

HUH!!!

cheers,
James

Lightbulb twilight sensor

HAHA ... get to replace the sensor tonight...

your headlight switch will prolly have a lil wierd ****, behind the pull out ****, that twists... its a twilight switch to turn your headlights on when it gets dark and keep them on after the car is killed for up to a minute... the hole is where the sensor goes to tell the computer when its dark out

the sensor alone is gm# 914032 - $55.13, not including tax or the rest of the wiring and connector... but its a nice option to have, i love auto headlights

HMMM

Right now my headlights go on in the daylight or night, I do have the above described switch. I guess the only think I am missing by this is the fact that my lights are on in the daytime.
is there a cover for this?

Cheers,
James

Mine has a small red cap. Do your dash lights change?

lol after looking closer to the pics you provided... i believe you just need the sensor

its gm part #00914032 - Sensor, HDLP AUTO CONT AMB LGT - $60.16 tax and all
a.k.a. - Auto Control Ambient Headlamp Light Sensor lol

contact local dealer or auto parts store to get one

Edit: I'll take pics of my new one real quick if you want so you know what your looking for... i have it out of the package hehe *at work*

The dash lights are always on day or night

Not sure why it is missing

Maybe don't really need it, it is just one of those things that bug you

Cheers,
James
